09.03.2009 Talent Management Survey

TALENT MANAGEMENT SURVEY launched for English and Welsh housing organisations

A Talent Management survey to find out how well the housing sector recruits, retains and develops its most talented individuals was launched w/c 23 February 2009.

EMA Business and Management Consultancy Ltd, which currently works with over 150 housing organisations, is inviting over 300 English and Welsh RSLs and ALMOs to reveal how effectively or otherwise they are coping with the demand for skilled staff across every area of their business.

Respondents are to be asked to complete a questionnaire in strict confidence looking at issues such as the current level of difficulty in recruiting key posts, the strength of their people development strategies and how well they know what talent they will need over the next 3-5 years.

A detailed report will be sent to all who take part and a summary of the findings will appear in Inside Housing around May of this year.

Anne Elliott, Director of EMA said the competitive and specialist nature of many RSLs means that they are often having to poach staff across from other similar organisations in order to meet their business objectives.

“Among the many problems this trend contributes to are spiralling salary costs, business disruption and reduced morale amongst staff who, over time, come to believe that the only way to get on in their career is to move to another RSL employer or to another sector.

“The survey aims to identify what strategies housing organisations are putting in place to reverse this trend and maximise the potential of the people they currently employ.”
