We were delighted to attract top quality candidates during a recent recruitment drive for the Accent Group. Working closely with the housing association’s team, we successfully recruited a new Chief Executive and five Board members.

After publicising the vacancies via various media, including the creation of a dedicated online microsite, we received over 90 applications for the Non-Executive posts and an extremely high calibre of applicants for the Chief Executive position. We then held final interviews from Wednesday to Friday before making the appointments that weekend.

Having originally drawn up a proposal for the Non-Executive recruitment campaign, we created a strategy to appoint the Board members including individuals with commercial expertise to sit on the asset committee and audit committee.

The drive included promoting the opportunity these positions offered – in light of Accent Group’s exciting future plans – online, via social media and through our own EMA database. We also set up a mini website outlining the organisation’s journey and achievements, featuring a raft of information and videos showcasing its work.

As a result, we were inundated with applications. Of the initial 90 candidates, we interviewed 27 people with 10 going through to the final interviews conducted by ourselves and members of the Accent Board’s appointments panel. During the course of the exercise, we were asked to recruit a new Chief Executive, which involved another microsite plus online and print advertising.

An intensive two days of Non-Executive final interviews was followed by a full day of final interviews to find the new Chief Executive, culminating in the agreement of appointments that Saturday.

Anne Elliott, Managing Director of EMA, said: “It was exhausting but an amazing weekend which delivered the results we all wanted. By understanding our client so well, fully appreciating their requirements and working closely with them, we attracted a very high calibre of applicants for all the positions which made the appointments much easier.”

Tim Miskell, Chair of Accent Group, said: “Over the last six months we have used EMA to recruit at both Non-Executive and Executive team level. From start to finish both recruitment processes were clearly focused, professional and efficient.

“Anne and her supportive team have an excellent working knowledge of candidates both in and out of the sector. This approach facilitated a record number of high quality applicants from a wide range of backgrounds for both campaigns. As a result we have successfully recruited to all posts.”

Matt Sugden, Accent Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, said: “EMA delivered the highest number of applicants we’ve ever had for Non-Executive positions and from a very diverse range of backgrounds, sectors, experience and expertise.

“This includes people who bring real commercial acumen on a strategic level, maximising the value the Board can bring to the business in these unprecedented times for housing – enabling us to recognise and make the most of the opportunities arising from the challenges currently facing the sector.”
